                    Emma's honey/hives

In glendowie, Auckland New Zealand you will find some beehives. There not any ordinarily beehives there special honey making hives with bees in them. There are 3 different types of bees in the hives, there are working bees drone bees and a Queen bee.

                                     working bees

The working bees are the bees who make the honey.First the working bees go to a flower and stick their heads in the flower and suck the pollen out of the flower. Then they go back to the hive and put the honey in the trays and then go out for more pollen. Fun Fact! working bees only live to make one teaspoon of honey!

breading, Queen bees and drone bees

They drone bees stay in the hive and look after the Queen bees well the Queen bee lays eggs, baby eggs with bees inside the eggs.
Fun Fact! the Queen bee lays about 1000 eggs per day!

                               harvesting the honey

Once the trays are full with honey the beekeepers come along(that is when they get the honey!). The beekeepers have a gadget called the smoker which you lite a fire in(not a big one though)and carefully blow it round the beehive. Once they do the bees will come out of the hive (like we do if there is a fire on our homes) and go crazy. After that the beekeepers get the trays out of the hive (if it is full of honey) and put them in a box.

                               bottling the honey

After the beekeepers have finished getting the trays out they have to bottle it. One way to do it is to first take of the wax from the trays and then you put it in a box to spin the trays round and get the honey off.

That is how the bee life is.
